Our Web Survey launching feature allows you to trigger an online survey on your website based on a set of predetermined rules.
We are able to configure these rules 'behind the scenes' for you. All you need to do is implement our tag on the web page(s) you want to launch on and tell us which rules you want us to implement.
Tag implementation
Please place the tag you have been provided just before the closing body tag (</body>). This will be provided by your Account Manager or in your administration screens.
Triggering events and rules
Surveys can trigger on the following events:
- Clicks
This event is triggered when a user interacts with your website by clicking their mouse or tapping their screen. - Page load
This event is triggered when your web page loads for the user. - Form interaction
This event is triggered when certain form elements are interacted with, for example when a user clicks into a radio button, multi-select box or enters text into a text box.
Surveys can be launched in the following ways once a trigger event has occurred:
- New Window
A new browser window is created over your website. Mobile devices will ignore this and deliver the survey as a new tab. The pop up window can be configured for size and position on screen. - New Tab
A new tab is opened in the user's browser containing the survey. Note that some browsers do have options that allow users to force new tabs as new windows (as such if a user has specifically set these browser options then the survey would open as a new window). - Floating Button
This will present a feedback button on your website. Clicking the button will launch the survey in a new browser tab or window depending on your device. The button is configurable to allow bespoke labelling and colours. It can be positioned with horizontal text in the bottom left or bottom right of the screen. Alternatively it can be positioned with vertical text attached to the left or right side of the screen. - Drawer button
This will present a feedback button on your website. Clicking the button will load the survey in a modal window. The button is configurable to allow bespoke labelling and colours. It can be positioned with vertical text attached to the left or right side of the screen. - Overlay
This will automatically present the survey in a modal window centred to the screen.
We also have the following optional configuration options:
- Delayed Launch
By default surveys are launched as soon as a trigger has occurred i.e. as soon as the page loads or as soon as the user clicks.
However, we can configure the launching so that it happens x seconds after the trigger has occurred i.e. 10 seconds after the page loads or as soon as the user clicks.
Note that delayed launching is page based. This means that it will only launch a survey if the user remains on the page for the designated number of seconds configured. - IP Addresses restrictions
We can limit launching based on the users IP address. This is primarily used when testing (i.e. we can set it up on your live website, but limit the launching to your IP so the general public does not see it until you have approved).
The options for restrictions are as follows:
- Include: Only the IPs listed will be valid for survey launching.
- Exclude: Everybody except the IPs listed will be valid for survey launching.
- Off: Everyone will see the survey. - Repeat launching restrictions (cookies)
We can restrict the number of times a survey is launched for each user. By default we launch once every 30 days i.e. once the user sees a survey they will see it again until 30 days later. This is driven by setting a cookie and as such is based on the device they are using (so they will see the survey again if they use a different device or if they delete their cookies).
We can disable the repeat launching restriction so that the survey appears every time the user visits your website. We can also change the 30 day default to be any value from 1 to 999 days. - Random selection
By default all supported users can trigger a survey. However we can configure the launching so that only a proportion of your users are surveyed (e.g. you could survey 20% of users). These users are selected randomly.
